Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ death on December 13 came as a shock to everyone – even his mother, Connie Alexander Boss. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, published on June 28, she opened up about her son’s death and revealed the final text message she sent him the day before he committed suicide.
She was feeling sick at the time and Stephen had texted her to see how she was feeling that day. Little did she know that was the last time they would speak. “He started that last text with, ‘I love you, Mom,’” Connie says. “And I responded, ‘I love you more.'” There was no reason for her to think he was unwell.
Connie was shocked to learn of his death – more specifically, the cause of his death. “To the extent that Stephen may have been in a Black depression — no, not Stephen. He was so in tune with analyzing and trying to make himself better, reading self-help books, so this came as a complete shock,” she added.

In her interview, Connie Alexander Boss detailed the events that unfolded on the morning of December 13. Things started going south when the family received word that Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss was missing. She immediately started calling friends and family members to see if they had heard from him at all.
Unfortunately, no one had. In an effort to help, she took a rapid COVID test and got on a plane to Los Angeles. While traveling, she started receiving calls from her brother and sister asking where she was and how far away she is. Those phone calls left her with a pit in her stomach – something was wrong.
"I went to my parents’ house and walked in. They were just standing there looking at me, and I said, 'Have you heard something?' All I remember hearing was, 'Connie, he’s gone.' And I remember screaming or falling to my knees. The rest of the day is more of a blur,” she said of the discovery.
And while it has been more than six months since his death, Connie Alexander Boss continues to grapple with her son’s suicide – much like the rest of his friends and family members. “Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday, and then other times it feels like it’s been so long since I’ve seen him,” she added.
Connie Alexander Boss Doesn’t Dwell on How Her Son Died
Ever since her son’s death, Connie Alexander Boss has found herself in ‘a lot of introspection’ and doing ‘a lot of looking back.’ She often thinks about some of the things he said and wonders if he was trying to call out for help. She often wonders if she missed something about his behavior or the way he acted.
"At this point, I’m in realization, I guess. When I wake up in the morning, it does hit me that, oh my God, he really is not physically here. But then in my head I can hear him say, 'Hey, Mom. I’m OK,'" she said. And while the struggle continues, she finds comfort in knowing that she’ll see her son again someday.

“When I think about him, I try not to dwell on how he left this earth. This is not totally the end. That is where my peace comes from,” she added.
