Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald Expecting Baby No. 5 After Suffering a Miscarriage in 2022

Congratulations are in order for Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald, who are set to become a family of seven in the coming months. The couple announced their pregnancy in an Instagram Story on Saturday (September 9) and a subsequent YouTube video, which provided more details about the incoming baby.

“After a heartbreaking loss last year, we are so grateful God has blessed us with a rainbow baby,” Jessa wrote in the caption – referring to the miscarriage she suffered during the holidays last year. The couple are already parents to sons Spurgeon, 7, and Henry, 6; and daughters Ivy, 3, and Fern, 18 months.

The baby is due sometime in 2024 – Jessa confirmed they learned of the pregnancy just one week ago, which means they have a long road ahead of them. The YouTube video began with a shot of a positive pregnancy test sitting on the couple’s bathroom counter. We wish Jessa, Ben, and their family all the best.

Jessa Duggar originally revealed she was expecting baby No. 5 in February 2023, but quickly added that she suffered a miscarriage just 11 weeks into the pregnancy. "Nothing could have prepared me for the weight of those words in that moment," she said of the moment they learned of the tragic miscarriage.

In a YouTube video at the time, she explained how her morning sickness was ‘amplified’ and she was experiencing some minor ‘spotting’ (blood) prior to the miscarriage. It was during one of her ultrasound appointments that the doctor revealed the devastating news – which left Jessa and Ben feeling alone.

It wasn’t the couple’s first miscarriage – which only added to the devastation. Their first miscarriage came in 2020 – at the time, they were already parents to Spurgeon, Henry, and Ivy. Following the miscarriage, they considered adopting or fostering a child to avoid any further tragedy, but ultimately decided against it.

Instead, they ended up getting pregnant one more time in 2021 and welcomed their fourth child together – daughter Fern Elliana – in July of that year. And, while their search for a fifth child was delayed by their second miscarriage, it appears they’re back on track and are excited to have another rainbow baby.

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald Enjoy a Romantic Getaway Together

While their pregnancy was certainly the highlight of their most recent YouTube video, it’s not the only thing the couple were sharing with their fans. In the video, which was titled ‘A Baby on the Way & Romantic Getaway!’ the couple documented a romantic getaway they enjoyed earlier this year without their kids.

It’s something the couple hasn’t had the opportunity to do much of over the past seven years – four children over that span will do that to a couple – but they decided to send them off to ‘Granny’s house’ so they can enjoy a much-needed vacation. And there’s no better, more relaxing place to be than the beach.

The video was just over 26 minutes long and included a montage of all the incredible food, sights, sounds, and activities they enjoyed on the trip. It also included some pictures and videos they received from their mother of how well their kids were behaving and how much fun they were having while away.
