Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Release Statement After Reaching Temporary Custody Agreement

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner reached a temporary custody agreement for their two minor daughters – Delphine, 15 months, and Willa, 3 – after a ‘productive mediation’ between October 4-7. The agreement comes one month after Joe filed for divorce after 4years of marriage due to ‘irreconcilable differences.’

“After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents,” Jonas and Turner wrote in a joint statement on Tuesday (Oct. 10) – this coming after a wildly tumultuous past month or so.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the temporary agreement outlines custody rights for both parents and is expected to run through the holiday season – but this isn’t the end. The couple will have to ‘jointly submit a status report letter’ that outlines the status of their mediation by December 23.

The agreement dictates that the children will be with Turner between Oct. 9 and Oct. 21, with Jonas between Oct. 21 and Nov. 2, with Turner between Nov. 2 and Nov. 22, with Jonas between Nov. 22 and Dec. 16, and with Turner between Dec. 16 and Jan. 7 – at which point a new agreement will be reached.

It also gives their two daughters the right to travel to England and throughout the United States – which is important because Joe Jonas will be touring the country with his brothers up until Dec. 9. Their agreement might get complex between February and June 2024 – when the Jonas Brothers’ tour goes worldwide.

Nonetheless, it’s good to know they have a temporary agreement in place – for the children’s sake, at least. Things were teetering on the edge of chaotic when Sophie Turner sued Joe Jonas for not giving up their daughters’ passports – therefore, preventing them from traveling with their mother back to England.

Turner demanded Jonas return their daughters to England immediately and claimed they were being ‘wrongfully retained.’ She filed the lawsuit on September 21 ‘through the child abduction clauses of the Hague Convention’ – which was established to ensure kids are returned to their ‘habitual residence.’

Joe Jonas Responds to Sophie Turner’s Lawsuit

Not long after Sophie Turner filed her lawsuit against Joe Jonas, he responded with a statement in defense – claiming that Sophie knew he was filing for divorce before he did so on Sept. 5 and that they were already ordered not to relocate the children by a Florida Court the day after the divorce was filed.

“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids,” he shared in a statement on Sept. 21. “Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup."

Once they reached an ‘amicable co-parenting setup,’ Sophie allegedly demanded the kids be returned to England immediately and permanently – which is why she needed the passports. In an effort to ensure the kids are raised by both their mother and father equally in the US and UK, Jonas kept the passports.

“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like 'abduction' is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst," his team added in the statement. “His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner.”
