Kourtney Kardashian Barker Opens Up About Her Recent Pregnancy Complication: “It Was Terrifying”

Kourtney Kardashian Barker is starting to open up about her recent pregnancy complication that saw her undergo emergency fetal surgery last month. She described the experience as ‘terrifying’ in a new interview with Vogue and talked about how this pregnancy differs from her previous three pregnancies.

“After, I learned that insurance typically only covers two ultrasounds when you’re pregnant, I had no idea. I’ve always been lucky enough to do more than what insurance covers, and it’s one of those ultrasounds that saved my baby’s life,” she said – adding that it ‘opened my eyes to a whole new world of pregnancy.’

Kourtney Kardashian is already a mother to three children – sons Mason Dash Disick, 13, and Reign Aston Disick, 8, and daughter Penelope Scotland Disick, 11 – who she shares with Scott Disick. She’s now pregnant with her fourth child with her husband, Travis Barker – it’ll be his fourth child as well.

“I’m one of those people who is obsessed with being pregnant,” Kourtney said in her recent interview with Vogue, which was published on Tuesday (Oct. 17). Her comments come six weeks after she was forced to undergo emergency fetal surgery to save her baby – something she’s not fully ready to talk about yet.

She did, however, give her thoughts on her pregnancy being considered a ‘geriatric pregnancy’ (one that occurs after a woman turns 35). She thinks that word is ‘just so wild,’ but says her doctors have her under a lot of restrictions and limitations in an effort to move forward with caution – something she’s not used to.

For example, she said she wasn’t allowed to exercise, fly on an airplane, or have sex in the first trimester. While she was allowed to do anything in the second trimester, she’s now back to the same restrictions as the first trimester after undergoing surgery – of course, she’s due any minute now (October-December).

With that said, she feels that she’s at a place where she can relax, remain calm, and wait for her baby’s arrival. “I've finally been able to let go of the fear and worry that everybody else put in us because of this pregnancy. I’m ready to go in, have the baby, and have the experience we’re meant to have,” she said.

Kourtney Kardashian Says Some Things Don’t Change About Being Pregnant

While there are a number of differences between this pregnancy and her previous three, she does admit that some things don’t change about being pregnant. For example, Kourtney Kardashian still plans on doing attachment parenting (which is what she did with her last two kids) and doesn’t have a ‘birth plan.’

“I’ve actually never had a birth plan in the past,” she said in her recent interview with Vogue. “I was so chill when my water broke with Mason, I shaved my legs and put on makeup. This time, I still don’t have a birth plan except for talking to the baby all the time and telling him ‘Everything is going to be amazing.’”

She was also ‘surprised so many things haven’t changed since my previous pregnancies’ – alluding to a list Jen Atkin sent her of must-have baby items. “I was like, ‘Are you serious? This is all the same stuff from 10 years ago,’” she said – though there’s one product she couldn’t help but give a quick shout-out to.

It’s a product from Kardashian’s supplement brand and it’s called Lemme Mama – a prenatal multivitamin designed to improve the health of the mom and baby.
