Kristen Bell Defends Her Decision to Let Her Children Drink Non-Alcoholic Beer: “I’m Not Doing Anything Wrong”

Kristen Bell has always been an open book when it comes to motherhood and, while her parenting style might not appeal to everyone, she doesn’t seem to have an ounce of shame in her body – even for those who have a problem with her allowing her two daughters to drink non-alcoholic beer with their father.

The 43-year-old actress, who shares two daughters – Delta, 8, and Lincoln, 9 – with fellow actor Dax Shepard, recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and was talking about a recent trip she took with her family to Disneyland – it was a rainy visit, but they made the most of it and had a great time.

There was a bit of special meaning behind the trip. In September of last year, Kristen Bell – along with other members of her Frozen cast – was honored with the ‘Disney Legends Award’ at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. As a token of her induction as a ‘Disney Legend,’ Bell was given an exclusive pin.

While talking about Disneyland, Kristen Bell brought up a ‘super exclusive’ restaurant called Club 33 located in the middle of Disney – a restaurant that requires patrons to pay dues in order to get in. It’s also allegedly the only place in Disney that sells alcohol – another reason why the restaurant is so popular.

Kelly was quick to note that it’s not the type of restaurant she would bring her kids to, but did admit to one of her children took a sip of champagne as a baby – which resulted in Kristen sharing a confession of her own. “My kids have ordered non-alcoholic beers at restaurants before,” Kristen said as everyone laughed.

She admitted that it might ‘sound insane,’ but provided a little context and explained that her husband is a recovering addict. “He likes non-alcoholic beer, so he'd pop one open, he'd have [our oldest daughter] on his chest, and we'd walk and look at the sunset," she said – but her daughter got a little too curious.

Apparently, her eldest daughter was always ‘pawing’ at the non-alcoholic beer and would even ‘suck the rim of it’ at times. “So I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family,” she explained. As her daughters have grown older, they’ve taken a liking to sharing an NAB with Daddy.

Kristen Bell Defends Her Parenting Style

After explaining that the non-alcoholic beers do, in fact, contain zero percent alcohol, Kristen Bell went on to defend her decision – though she admits she doesn’t care what others think. In fact, her daughter has become so comfortable with her beverage of choice that she started ordering NABs while at restaurants.

“I'm like, maybe we just keep that for home time," Kristen said of her initial reaction when her daughter ordered it for the first time. And while it might not be normal to other families, Kristen doesn’t care. "But then I'm sort of like, you can judge me if you want, I'm not doing anything wrong. That's your problem.”

Earlier this year, Kristen Bell was featured as the cover story in REAL SIMPLE magazine’s Game Changers issue and created quite a stir over comments she made about her parenting style. During the interview, she claimed that no topic is ‘off the table’ when raising her two daughters with Dax Shepard.

“I know it’s shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs and the fact that their daddy is an addict and he’s in recovery, and we talk about sex. There are all these ‘hard topics’ that don’t have to be if you give the person on the other end your vulnerability and a little bit of credit,” the 42-year-old actress admitted.
