Mark Ballas and BC Jean Open Up About Their Miscarriage Story in Touching New Song

Mark Ballas and his wife, BC Jean, are opening up about a very sensitive time in their lives and they’re doing it in the best way they know how – with music. The couple took to their band’s Instagram page to reveal they had suffered a miscarriage last year and promote the release of their new song, ‘Rainbow.’

“We lost a baby last year, just when we thought we were in a good place to tell friends + family, we received the heavy news that our little one wasn’t going to make it. We’ve been through hard times in our lives, but this was a different kind of sadness,” they wrote before sharing a short snippet from the song.

Ballas and Jean – who announced they were expecting their first child in June – use their beautiful words and beautiful voices to explain the pain they endured when they learned of the miscarriage. They hope the new song ‘brings whoever listens some kind of peace and reminds you that a rainbow isn’t far behind.’

The new song comes just six months after Mark Ballas announced his retirement from Dancing With the Stars after 20 seasons with the program. He was a three-time winner – doing so with Kristi Yamaguchi (Season 6), Shawn Johnson (Season 8), and Charli D’Amelio (Season 31) – and was a fan-favorite.

Three months later, he and his wife revealed they were expecting their first child together. They shared the news on Instagram with an adorable ‘life update’ video that gave a rundown of what they’ve been up to lately. Of course, the most important life update came at the end – they had a little bun in the oven!

"Lately we've been… making new music, making birthday wishes, went to Disneyland, made more music stuff, turned off our phones and went to the beach, car rides with our best mate (their dog), Boba tea, made more music,” the text overlay in the video read. “Also, we've been making.... a tiny human."

In August, Mark Ballas shared a video of him and his wife getting ultrasound imaging of their little baby. “Seeing our baby move for the first time was an experience & a moment I’ll never forget, I can’t wait to meet you little one I’m all in my feels, now that it’s getting real,” Ballas wrote in the caption on Instagram.

Family and Friends Show Love and Support for Mark Ballas and BC Jean

Mark Ballas and BC Jean have a lot to celebrate with the birth of their first child just a few months away, but their new song is a reminder of all the struggles they had to get through to get to where they are today. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a sad reality for most parents or soon-to-be parents in the world today.

Ballas’ mother, Shirley Ballas (who made several appearances on DWTS), described it as ‘the most beautifully written song that I have ever heard’ in a comment on Instagram. “This one hits my heart the most. I love you both so very much and I am so very sorry for your loss,” she added in the comment.

“This really hits home you guys ♥️ love you so much,” wrote Jenna Johnson – a fellow Dancing With the Stars pro. Charli D’Amelio, who won the DWTS competition in 2022 (Season 31) as Ballas’ partner, left a row of red hearts in the comments section, while DWTS pro Pasha Pashkov left a teary-eyed emoji.
