Pete Davidson Checked Himself Into Rehab to Help Manage PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder Symptoms

A source close to Pete Davidson is telling PEOPLE that the 29-year-old actor and comedian recently admitted himself into rehab to address his mental health. He’s currently receiving in-patient therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder at a facility in Pennsylvania.

“Pete regularly goes to rehab for ‘tune ups’ and to take a mental break, so that’s what’s happening,” said another source from Page Six – who confirmed he’s staying in the same facility John Mulaney stayed at while dealing with his substance abuse (alcohol and drugs) issues. Davidson has yet to speak of his visit.

The source praised Davidson for always stepping up and reaching out for help when he knows he needs it. They confirmed he has ‘a lot of people in his corner who love him and support him’ and is currently ‘taking a well-deserved break so he can focus on himself and learn to better deal with his PTSD issues.’

Pete Davidson’s mental health issues began during his childhood years. He was just 7 years old when he lost his father, Scott Davidson, during the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Scott was a firefighter for Ladder Company 118 when he arrived on the scene of the second hit on the Twin Towers.

Through the years, he has struggled with PTSD, borderline personality disorder (BPD), depression, drug use, and Crohn’s disease. He checked himself into rehab in 2017, forced police officers to execute a welfare check on him in 2018 after talks of suicide, and checked himself into rehab once more in 2019.

His recent admission into rehab, which was initially reported on Wednesday (June 28), comes after a series of stressful and triggering events for Davidson over the past 14 months. For example, Davidson underwent trauma therapy in April 2022 as a result of the harassment he received from Kanye West

Pete Davidson dated Kanye’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, for more than nine months between October 2021 and August 2022. He doesn’t regret dating Kim, but decided it was best for his mental health if he focused to his career. Davidson is now dating Chase Sui Wonders and are supportive of one another.

Pete Davidson, PETA, and a Car Crash

On March 4, Pete Davidson and his girlfriend, Chase, were involved in a car crash when he lost control of his Mercedes and crashed into a home. The damage was minimal, no one was hurt, and police officers had no reason to believe drugs and/or alcohol were involved, but Davidson was eventually charged.

On June 16, roughly three months after the crash, Davidson was charged with reckless driving by the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office. The charge can result in a $1,000 fine, a knock on your driver’s license, and even a jail sentence of up to 90 days (1.5 months). He’s set to be arraigned of the charge on July 27.

"We believe Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home," the LA County District Attorney's Office said. "Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision. We know that reckless driving can have devastating consequences."

And just a few weeks ago, Pete Davidson lashed out at Daphna Nachminovitch, who called him out for shopping for a dog, opposed to adopting a dog. He left an expletive-filled voicemail for the PETA exec and explained that he was allergic to most dogs and was just trying to buy a dog for his family.
